I cannot believe you cannot do this still... 10 years...on seriously? I've just create a misspelled target role by mistake and now I am stuck with it forever? Really?

Here we are in 2021 (soon to be '22) ... is this suggestion going anywhere?

We have some legacy roles that this change would help with significantly in cleaning up the meaning of them as they've evolved.

+3 quite awhile ago. However, I never commented. This appears to be the most popular idea, but I don't think it encompasses the need for role management in general. Reusing roles by renaming them seems like a solid idea, but I would also like to be able to remove them entirely. The biggest issue here is that sometimes a odd or misspelled role is added but can not be corrected or removed. For example, today one of my engineers created a script that was supposed to utilize roles, and instead created new ones because of a code error. This does not excuse his scripting habits, but we should be able to have a way to correct the problem.

+3. Octopus is AMAZING and so well thought through, which is why not having the ability to rename roles is a real head-scratcher.

+3 This should be a very basic requirement to be able to edit and remove roles from OD. This request is from 2012. It's now 2019 and this is still not possible. Is any implementation being planned? OD really needs a central place to manage all roles, including editing and deleting them. It's been 7 years and this capability still has not been added. This would be a really great feature.

I inherited a botched install and have so many redundant roles that a way to clean these up would be really helpful.

We have severe need of this. manually updating roles in dozens of projects is just not feasible.

It is infuriating that even if I delete the role for all targets I cannot recreate the role with my choice of upper or lower case letters as Octopus remembers the letter case of the deleted role. Boo.

+1 on a tool that assists in renaming a role. Looks like people have been requesting this for at least 5 years.

This would be really useful, once a role has been assigned to many servers and used in many deployment steps or variables, it can be a nightmare to rename.

is there any way now in octopus to manage the roles (modify / delete the roles)?

I also think this is a much needed feature, and would add that having a Roles tab (like the Environment tab) would be addition to the Octopus Deploy UI.
