  2. The API key field in TeamCity should be able to be set by a TeamCity parameter. This way the API key can be set as a global parameter within TeamCity to be used by multiple projects.

  3. Microsoft Teams already has a pretty great list of connectors, but one big one is missing... Octopus Deploy!

I would like to be able to receive messages in a channel when a deployment is complete, or certain events happen.

  5. It would be nice to hide the "un-tenanted" group of releases shown on the dashboard and project overview, if the project is configured as "require a tenant for all deployments". We don't want to delete these old releases, but they are no longer relevant to us and interfer with the information shown on the dashboard.

  6. Making Octopus deploy server listening on multiple ports for communication with polling Tentacles:

    Octopus.Server.exe service --stop
    Octopus.Server.exe config --commsListenPorts=10943+10944
    Octopus.Server.exe service --start

It may be useful for listening 2 instances of Tentacle of the same machine.

  7. Sometimes deployments are bad due to bad configuration variables that are un-testable before releasing to production.
Having the ability to 'dry run' a deployment and see all the task outputs with specific highlighting for variables and evaluated variables would allow the identification of changes that need to be made before actually deploying to an environment.

  8. I'd like to see octo deploy-release support roles.

So you can say what environment to deploy to and what role the machines in that environment must have too.

  9. ASP.NET web sites need to be hit with a request to "warm up", it would be nice to have that as a deployment step in Octopus.

  10. We push our web apps to IIS using Octopus/Octopack. Frequently we make transform errors in web.config (forget to include a transform or have wrong value in transform). When this happens, it's painful because have to rebuild/repackage/redploy the entire web app. In this scenario, new code is not needed just new web.config with corrected transforms. Would be nice if Octopus could help us push new config to existing app instead of having to push whole new app.

This goes against how we at Octopus consider deployments should take place. As soon as you have changed parts of your config that cant be dealt with by purely updating the variables then it should be considered a new package and tested accordingly. While its not something we would ever prevent users from doing, it is unlikely to be something we provide for as a first class concept

  11. To be honest I am not sure why you changed your UI. Other than a bug when adding variables, it was fairly good. My suggestion is that you need to put a lot more time into your UI. The UI for version 4 is awful, sorry but it is and the version 3 was much easier to use. It took me an hour to figure out that what I thought was a table header for the variable list was how you add a new variable, was not clear it was an input form. You hide way too many things, took…

The suggestion by Rob (to include it in the release notes when using Octo.exe) is a good one. Alternatively you could modify the way your NuGet packages are built to include the changes link in the element of the .nuspec. Both of these approaches would be preferred since they don’t require Octopus to make any assumptions about TeamCity usage.

  15. There is a bug in v4.1.7 on the steptemplates/ActionTemplates-7/usage page.

When viewing usage for a step template, the page displayed 'This template has not been used by any projects yet.'

But when I attempted to delete it, I was warned that the template was used by a whole list of projects. I don't have access to those projects, so I suspect that the usage page is only reporting on usage within projects that I have visibility over.

I'm not sure that I could have actually deleted the template, but it would be better if the usage page checked all projects.

This is currently by design. The deletion check also needs to look at deployment processes that have snapshotted (i.e. deployments still in the system and not cleaned up by retention policy) however this operation can be expensive so it was best left for checking when the action is attempted rather than every time that page is loaded.

  16. The structure and layout of pages since the new material-design UI has been horrible, so much so that we are seriously considering move away from Octopus Deploy after using it for several years.

The contrast of pages suck, blue text on white background makes it difficult to read.

Every config/admin option has been moved and now harder to find, that coupled with the bad contrast makes it impossible to find options at a glance.

Some elements have a fixed width, which results in text being cut off making it unreadable.

The material design concepts are horrible and includes no visual…

  17. When a release is deleted there's no record of it ever existing. The audit log should record when a release is deleted. Be nice to know which SOB deleted my release and when. Ditto for deleted channels.

Deletion of both releases and channels are written to the audit log.
They are recorded under the event-group “Document events”.
If you are not seeing these, definitely contact our support.

    I hope that helps :)

  18. since I thoughtlessly upgraded to Version 4.0.x I cant use the GUI in an intuitive way any more.

Such a "touchy" shit everywhere, :-((

We spent quite a bit of time optomizing the new UI to make it as user friendly as possible. Part of this involved taking guidance from well known design patterns such as material-ui. The font is not something that we have heard much concern about since releasing this version several months ago.

  20. We have some machines especially admin machines that have Edge and we're trying to avoid using Chrome. This new material design is nice but certain buttons aren't responding on Edge!! Please fix this!
