  1. If I have a WCF endpoint in my .config file, and an Octopus variable with a name that matches the name of my contract, auto-replace it (just like appSettings/connectionStrings replacement).

  2. The weak link in deployment with Octopus is the NuGet repository - a bad guy could upload a package that leaks your sensitive data, and Octopus would deploy it without realizing.

    A solution would be:

    1. You sign your NuGet packages with a private key X509 certificate (NuGet uses System.IO.Packaging which supports signatures)
    2. In Octopus, you provide a list of thumbprints of certificates that you trust (e.g., you only trust NuGet packages signed by yourself)
    3. When Octopus downloads a package, or when Tentacles download packages, Octopus verifies that they have been signed by a trusted certificate

    This should be an opt-in…

  3. As of 3.3 roles with in child steps are all-in: The childs will inherit all the roles from the parent

Would the below feature be useful?

    • There's a parent step with 3 Roles "Role1","Role2","Role3".
    • Child 1 can be scoped only to "Role1".
    • Child 2 can be scoped only to "Role2" & "Role3".
    • Child 3 can be scoped to the 3 roles.
    • No child can be scoped to a role outside of the 3 defined by the parent.

  4. This would ease the guessing work that needs to be done while trying to evaluate the release variables. This would also resolve any of the system variables that are needed to be used inside of the project variables.

  5. NuGet has a 20 char limitation for package names. Octopack enforces this, it would be nice instead of Octopack would jsut trim the name and create the package, as our branch names are created by Developers and can be long.

Note: Octopack IS OpenSource, and Pull Requests are accepted!

  6. I have read the section on not using dependencies (http://docs.octopusdeploy.com/display/OD/Packaging+applications) and I agree but I think we're missing a nice feature if we consider dependencies as being releases done by Octopus to a given environment that include the nuget that is defined as a dependency. Consider this:

    MyOrg.MyApp.Web 1.0.0.0 depends on MyOrg.MyServiceApp.RestApi 1.5.0.0...2.0.0.0.

When I deploy MyOrg.MyApp.Web to environment Production Orcopus could check if I have a release in that environment that deuccessfuly deployed MyOrg.MyServiceApp.RestApi 1.5.0.0...2.0.0.0. Essentially this would make sure all my dependencies between projects are deployed within a given environment.
It could also warn me about…

  8. With one of the latest updates, the Dasboard technology has been changes to React Virtualized Grids. We are running a bigger Project with a lot of services that are grouped up in the dashboard. With that new Technology, the scrolling performance and logic on the page got really weird. Sometimes the group is scrolling, sometimes the page. While attaching/detaching Deploy Versions sometimes a white area is shown while scrolling.

In addition we had custom user styles applied by the browser Addon stylish to resize the grid in Dashboards as Element and Text sizes seem to be optimized for Tablets. Before…

  9. Currently when deploying a project containing one or more Deploy Release steps (https://octopus.com/docs/deployment-process/coordinating-multiple-projects/deploy-release-step), there is no ability to preview the deployment steps that will be executed in the child deployment, nor the ability to exclude machines from the child deployment.

It would be nice to surface this information on the create-deployment page of the parent project.

  10. It would be great to be able to set the number of days for which a Notifcation of an SSL certificate takes place.

Due to a number of external factors we normally plan SSL replacements 60 days in advance so the 20 day expiry warning that is currently set will not be viable.

  12. It would be great if Octopus would also support external NPM and Bower feeds instead of NuGet or the internal Octopus feed.

    Background:
Octopus does a great job when deploying Windows software based on NuGet packages. As described in #2183 the NuGet package format isn't always suitable. Octopus now supports to store arbitrary archives in the internal Octopus feed. Although this might be useful in some cases, you don't want Octopus to become a package repository. Octopus can also fetch from TeamCity, but TeamCity is also limited to a NuGet only feed and should be responsible to build software, not…

  14. Currently in the Teams area you can either allow team access to All Environments or select which environments they have access to by including them explicitly. It would be great if we could select environments they should be excluded from (UAT, Production, etc).

We're trying to take advantages of Azure and the ability to create test environments on the fly that allow our testers and developers to create environments for them to deploy to. Under the current access rules they need the ability to access all environments (leaving the Environments access field blank) or add each environment as it is…

  15. I'd like to be able to pick a few variables and either move them to a variable set, or extract a variable set out of them.
It's particularly useful when I want to share sensitive variables between projects.

  16. Currently in the AWS console you can run a powershell start up script that will spin up new ec2 instances of a project.

Having this as part of a deployment where you could configure a step to spin up X instances then immediately deploy the project to those instances during high load.
Then when load is down, step to spin down the instances related to last deployment.

  17. When viewing a Release, I would like to be able to clone the Release into a new Release. The variables, package versions, etc. of the new Release would be set to the same values as the original Release.

This would help support hotfix scenarios, where we have the previous Release saved, and want to deploy just a single updated package. Right now I basically create a new Release and manually set all of the package versions to the existing values. The manual method doesn't allow me to copy the older set of variables though.

  18. There is currently no way to associate a project to multiple tenants without going into each tenant one by one, finding the project, selecting an environment, and clicking Save. For installations with many (tens or more) tenants, this is quite inconvenient, and has resulted in hacky workarounds from third-parties.

  20. Currently the Configuration Transforms runs configuration file transforms on XML formatted config files.

It would be useful to enable config transforms on JSON files as well, e.g. an appsettings.json file.
