  1. https://help.octopus.com/t/feature-request-variable-sets-spanning-spaces/26948/4

We have multiple teams and have so far been avoiding spaces because we have no way that we know of to share variables and scripts between teams in different spaces.

We have a lot of shared configuration that we wants accessible by all and with only one source of truth. For example, we have many apps that need to add whitelisting for our build/deploy servers. We store that ip whitelist in an octo variable set so all project can access it. If I need to alter that whitelist I can be confident that if I change the values in…

  2. When you navigate to a project, you get to the Overview page as a start. When you open up many projects at once (cause a change triggered multiple CI for example, which should be deployed) all of them will show "Overview - Octopus Deploy" in the HTML title and as such it's also what's displayed on the browser tabs:

You loose the ability to distinguish between these tabs. It also means that if you bookmark multiple projects then you'll have to change their title manually to have a valuable label for them. You have to click around them to figure…

  3. Here's the scenario:

I have a web application that is being used across 12 countries.

Every country has its own environment, databases.

While the current Octopus allow us to create tenant variable like Alias, it is useful but when it comes to scope variable this feature is not there.

Example: Tenant A has a different Database credential for UAT and PROD. Currently the workaround is to create 2 tenant variable, like UAT Database, PROD Database.

It would be useful to have this scoped as well.

  4. With an increased release cadence, it would be nice of Octopus supported the idea of creating freeze/blackout calendars that would either (by setting) outright prevent deployments (possibly allowing with authorization by a particular team) or display a warning that the deployment is taking place during a freeze period.

Ideally we would be able to associate these freeze calendars with projects or project groups, specify whether it is a warning when deploying or prevents deployment, and in the latter case which team or teams would be able to authorize bypassing the freeze.

  5. We ran into this problem because as a part of our deployment process, we need to stop a service (which isn't a part of our deployment), clear a cached file that the service was holding onto (which IS a part of our deployment), and then restart the service.

Even though the Octopus tentacle has admin rights, and can start/stop a service via the control panel (i.e. log on as the Tentacle user, open the Services cmdlet, and you can start/stop services), to do so via a Powershell script requires you to right click on it and selected 'Run as Administrator',…

  6. Currently if you have child and parent steps with a single failed deployment email step at the end of the deployment, a failure of any child step will only be indicated as a failure of the entire parent step. It would be nice if the step.Status.ErrorDetail and step.Status.Error had the ability to display child status details.

This was previously requested here: http://help.octopusdeploy.com/discussions/questions/4210-show-child-steps-in-email, but was closed without any movement.

  7. I would like to see steps that can be repeatable based on the entries found in a list.

Ex. I have 40 iis websites configurations in one process, all the steps are the exact same except for variables that I provide. Each of the steps has 4 children steps. Setting this up involved a lot of cloning of steps, renaming and waiting..after so many steps in a process, the UI SLOWS way down.

I propose that a feature be added to allow steps to be repeated, driven by a list. In this instance, the list would be a list of…

  8. Just like we have the built-in function New-OctopusArtifact , It might be a good idea to have a functions to Cancel, Timeout or Fail a deployment.

    Timeout-OctopusDeployment
    Cancel-OctopusDeployment
    Fail-OctopusDeployment`

  9. In our company the main application is actually an IIS Site composed of several virtual applications and we have many environments to deploy to and more than 1500 variables with different people having access to modify them.

In some scenarios we have found that very few variables have been modified and the change goes unnoticed until it goes to production.

Updating the entire variable snapshot represents a risk in which case it would be ideal to allow editing only the variables needed and update the snapshot instead of the entire set.

  10. I would like to know if we can include a dashboard like tab that only shows active deployments, my team has a lot of projects and environments. It's a pain to scroll through all of them to find an active deployment. Also, it would be good for the business to see how many concurrent deployments are being released simultaneously.
The Dashboard should include the environments, projects, date and project versions. Once deployment is complete pass/fail it should clear.

  11. This would behave similar to how we can test the Effective User Permissions for a given role.

It could potentially be easier to troubleshoot variable issues this way than needing to set the debug variable values and trigger an actual deploy.

  12. One pain point we run into is making updates or changing the deployment process for a project. The repeated loop of "make a change, create a new release, deploy the release, make sure everything worked as expected, if not repeat" is very time consuming. Making large changes or introducing new steps into a process can often leave the overall process in a broken state for hours or days. During that time my team still needs to be able to make deployments of the project that just work. It would be beneficial if there were a way to work on changes…

  13. We are using Octopus Deploy for automating the deployment of multiple Biztalk applications.

Each deployment is a single BizTalk application being installed on a server. Now some BizTalk application have dependancies on others, so if an updated application is deployed, then the dependant application needs to be un-deployed first.

This is all automated via the use of the BizTalk Deployment Framework (which is what Octopus calls), but the un-deployed applications are not reflected in the Octopus Dashboard as (understandably) the un-deployment was not triggered by Octopus.

We would request that ability to set (via the REST API) a custom status…

  14. This would be useful for replacing values especially in the values-file from Chart Package or Additional Package. With this feature we don't need to have variable replacement syntax in our source-files.

  15. Add date, time and date/time variable types. This would validate that the input value is a valid date, time or date/time.

Optionally provide a friendly interface (date picker control) for the respective values.

  16. The idea is to have the tenant variables displayed vertically, with one column for each environment.
Currently, it is quite tedious to compare or copy variable values from an environment to another.

  18. We've been trying to ensure that any 'Step Templates' created in Octopus contain scripts/code (PowerShell) that exists within a package. That package is then referenced as part of the 'Step Template'.

The problem we have with this is that as soon as the package is pushed, it then gets used in any new releases. This means that we have no opportunity to test this in Octopus prior to new releases in pipelines using it.

It would be useful if within the 'Step Template' we could specify/fix the package version (or specify a range) used so that all other pipeline releases…

  19. Hi,
I have a service/container and I want to launch it in the same machine a number of times (variable to be applied per environment/tenant) .

Do you have something for this? Can you put this?

  20. Hi,
We would like to select certain release versions in the scheduled deployment triggers similar to how we create a new release and can select a release version
Currently it doesn't seem to be possible and it uses only the latest release
Hope this can added in the next Octopus release
    Thanks,
    KK
