  1. It would be nice if we could install our octopus instances as a PWA and integrate desktop notifications for things like deployment events, failures, and possibly manual steps needing approval

  2. We use keyfactor (https://www.keyfactor.com/platform/certificate-lifecycle-automation/) for Certificate lifecycle Automation. It would be great if Octopus could integrate with this keyfactor to allow for issuance, renewal, inventory, import and storage of new certificates.

  3. I posted about this as a GitHub issue as well (https://github.com/OctopusDeploy/OctopusCLI/issues/142). Basically, it would be nice if the octo CLI could read environment variables for all of its commands and flags. This would make CI easier since values could be easily changed and tested without having to make code changes.

    Thank you!

  4. If you use an Octopus, build/pipeline task within Azure DevOps Server/Services (or another CI/CD tool) to trigger a deployment, it would be useful to have a URI within the feedback output by the deployment within the Azure DevOps (or other CI/CD tool) build/pipeline.

This would allow the Octopus deployment to be accessed via a single click of that URI (as opposed to having to navigate back into Octopus and find the project, the release and then the deployment).

  5. Currently our workflow for indicating/knowing what app/s need to be deployed for a Jira issue or a Jira release (of multiple issues) is to manually enter/bundle up these from the Jira issue descriptions which we fill out.

What would be amazing though would be if the Octopus Jira integration plugin rendered a smart "section" into the Jira issue, where you could (1) select which apps need to be deployed (from Octopus), and (2) then get a read-only envs+releases matrix like in the octo dashboard so people can see where it's deployed currently.

Furthermore, on the Jira release/deployment page (assuming this…

  6. Octopus does not provide date time filter for any of the Octopus APIs.
Which makes very difficult to pull data for an older date.
There is no way other than loading each page then take the Page.Next value and compare the date.
Its time consuming when the date we search is really old.

I would like Octopus deploy to support the date filter for APIs.

There is one more drawback while using APIs with out date time filter which is explained in this page.
    https://help.octopus.com/t/date-filter-for-octopus-apis/25111/3

  7. We use Venafi (https://www.venafi.com/platform/trust-authority) to issue and manager certificates. It would be great if Octopus could integrate with this system to allow for issuance, import and storage of new certificates for the sites we deploy.

  8. When viewing the page, /app#/projects/--project_name--, add a navigation link called Infrastructure which when clicked shows all of the related infrastructure for roles for the project.

I know this data can be viewed on another page, but it would be easier if I am already viewing the project to see where it is running without loosing focus on the project and needed to navigate to the infrastructure and filtering my roll.

  9. Adding the ability to have modules pre-installed gives much more flexibility to the Python scripting feature.
Having this available the same way "Referenced Packages" is available to PowerShell scripts would be very helpful.
Having it apply to Script Templates as well as Script Modules would be the best.

  10. Rather than throwing a standard PowerShell error stack (which is only helpful in a PowerShell script), there should be some kind of log output from the Calamari that gives an indication as to what the error is (in the case of Python, a full stack trace would be nice).
NativeCommandError's are almost always unhelpful because the output is always truncated after "${env:TentacleHome}\Calamari\[version]\Calamari.exe" run-script

  12. We have api https://octopus.buildium.com/api/deployments. This don't take channelId or projectId or environmentId. We needed this API to be returned filtered by these 3 parameters, so that we don't have to fetch large data and filter ourselves. Also this api doesn't have status value. for that we have to call api/tasks for each of the filters deployments to find if the deployment is Queued or not. Please give support for additional parameters or even created date also works. Also accomodate status value in response json.

  13. We integrate Octopus into our Azure DevOps pipeline through octo.exe. The problem is that octo.exe wraps the output it receives from the server unconditionally to 80 characters. This does not make any sense.
The net result - it is completely unreadable.
Please, remove the wrapping or give us a flag to remove it.

  14. I would like to be able to customize the Health Check of Azure WebApps deployment targets. For example I would expose an endpoint /health that must be queried on an ~hourly basis. In the case of a Tentacle this is possible using Machine Policies, but I can't assign one to a Azure WebApp deployment target.

  15. Currently, we must build artifacts that are either a nuget package, maven package, or a zip file to be considered an external feed into Octopus.

I would like to see Octopus also be able to pull in MSI files - we have a build pipeline that generates MSIs and places them in Artifactory. We cannot pull those directly as an external feed since the repo is set up as a "generic repository" type in Artifactory.

  16. It would be super helpful if I could add a dockerfile to my project and place a #ADDFILES variable in and have octopack dynamically regenerate the dockerfile for me as part of the build step so my output could be a zip file that was 'docker build' ready.

  17. When triggering a deployment from a build system (TFS, VSTS, or other), it may desirable to collect artifacts produced by the deployment (via New-OctopusArtifact) back to the triggering build. For example, when executing integration tests during a deployment triggered from a TFS build, I would like to copy the test results back to the triggering build for publishing within TFS.

The above can currently be done after the deployment has completed. However, it is challenging to ensure that the correct artifacts are collected since the deployment ID needs to be inferred rather than being well-known as it is within the…

  18. We want to scrape and store events from the API so that we can aggregate events to help us understand our usage.

Unfortunately this is made difficult by the embedding of HTML in fields that are inside the json that is returned by the octopus api.

It is rather frustrating because there is a lot of useful information in the details field of an event but they are formatted with html.

    see https://github.com/OctopusDeploy/OctopusDeploy-Api/wiki/Events

  20. It would be great if you could give your machines default permissions to call the octopus API. That way I would not need to expose API keys in source control.

This would be similar to the way AWS supports machine Instance Roles.

This could be something admins within octopus could setup. Ideally you could specify a set of permissions and apply that to the server. The level of permission you grant the server can be set on a machine by machine basis. This would make interacting with the API far easier.
