  1. Azure Web Sites extensions: http://azure.microsoft.com/blog/2014/06/20/azure-web-sites-extensions/

How amazing would it be if you could add in an extension to your Azure Web Site that can connect to a OctopusDeploy server and register that website in a particular envionment with a particular role and have NuGet packages deployed to it?

It would be a much nicer ootb experience then the current Azure Web Sites Web Deploy library item (which is definitely awesome, but it's not very seamless).

  2. Add AWS CodeDeploy as a Octopus Deploy Target (similar to the Offline Package Drop)

We;re currently using a combination of Tentacles and CodeDeploy. Tentacles are great for debugging deployment issues, but CodeDeploy is simpler to integrate with AWS AutoScaling etc. It also allows cross-region deployments without the need for VPNs or having to keep multiple Octopus server configs in sync.

We're currently doing this using the following steps:

    • Offline Package drop
    • Some script file renaming and adding an AppSpec.yml file
    • Uploading to S3
    • Calling the CodeDeploy APIs to trigger and monitor the deployment

  3. Please provide integration with Azure App Configuration. We need the task to download variables in the process runtime. This will allow to use Azure CMDB and Octopus for deployments.

  4. The GoogleApps authenticator in Octopus is excellent. However it limits you to specifying a single 'Hosted Domain' and rejects otherwise successful authentication if the user's email address domain does not match that one domain.

We have a couple of use cases where we would like to allow multiple domains (with just one instance of the the GoogleApps auth):

    1) We operate two brands and so have Google Apps addresses for two domains. We can only enable one on of them for Octopus.

    2) We would like tenant users to be able to have limited access. It would be ideal if…

  6. We use Octo.exe in TFS CI Builds that starts the deployment of the project in Octopus Deploy (OD) to our development environment, using a specific OD user (called TFS Service User). This has been working flawlessly, however it restricts the audit history and (email) notifications away from who "really" started the deployment (the user that check-in). As it always ends up saying/using "TFS Service User (tfs@domain.com)".

It would be nice to be able to create and start the deployment (via Octo.exe) with a provided username to "impersonate".

  7. I would assume* it's mostly a case of adding linux-arm64 as a runtime argument.

Octopus is the /only/ thing that's preventing me from moving my TeamCity agents to Amazon t4g instances. I can accept that the plugin for TC maybe more involved but can we atleast get a build of the cli supporting ARM so that I can manually post manually to Octopus.

  8. I'd like to see a plugin for Octopus deployments to integrate into the continuous delivery process displayed in Hygieia. This would make octopus deploy part of a comprehensive view of work. Hygieia is a DevOps Dashboard to track development. More info and a link to a video explaining the benefits are here: https://github.com/capitalone/Hygieia

  9. If there were a mechanism for serving artifact files, we could
    (i) run some lightweight javascript to do things like load-on-demand
(ii) provide a more integrated user experience (opening a file from downloads feels clunky)

The mechanism could be to show artifact files in tabs in the approval step and completed release summary pages. There could be an 'add artifact tab' option in settings, which allowed you to name the tab and specifiy the artifact file to be displayed.

TeamCity allows you to serve artifacts from tabs in build results through project config options - https://confluence.jetbrains.com/display/TCD9/Including+Third-Party+Reports+in+the+Build+Results

  10. Currently Push Build Information API and command line ignores values set on WorkItems field, only to auto populate with values once one of the Integration extension is enabled.

Please allow Push Build Information API and Command line to
    - Set WorkItems with values set on request
    - Do not override values even if Issue Tracker extension is enabled

  12. The nuspec approach may indeed support excluding files. However the zip approach (--format=zip) doesn't. Per octopus documentation the .zip approach is the recommended way forward. In this light a --exclude option is in order to compensate feature-wise vS the nupkg approach.

  13. I was wondering if there has been any thought into making a project variable filter/tag system by tenant. It seems like over time the project variable list could get quite long for large implementations. It would be nice if when setting up a project variable you could tag a tenant or tenants that it applies to. That way it would only show for those tenants. Otherwise it would take the default value for the other tenants. Or something to that effect.

  14. Allow defined dependencies on powershell modules or scripts (and versions) from a nuget compatible source such as PowershellGallery.com. Allow these dependency definitions anywhere powershell is used in Octopus. Tentacle should install the scripts/modules into the Powershell Session prior to performing any release steps.

This would allow for more complex powershell modules to be made available for Octopus to use, as well as a means for keeping the PS code up to date outside of Octopus.

  15. We are using TeamCity as a CI engine, and trigggering OD from there. Once we have triggered a deployment, we want to run tests against that environment.

At present, we need to have the required configuration settings in both OD and the code to allow the tests to point to this environment.

We can currently use the api to get the variable values from a release, and duplicate the code from Octopus to update a config file, however this will be a maintenance nightmare as Octopus evolves.

It would be great if there was a way to use Octopus to…

  16. Packer is a versatile tool, especially when working in a multi-cloud environment. It can be used for both creating both base gold images that can then be fully built on later or fully built imputable images.

I see an octopus step being able to be used to:
    1) create or pull (from a repository) & update a json template with variables & transformation.
    2) next packer validate
    3) packer builds the image.

ideally, there would also be an "Octopus" provisioner for packer that would allow the download of repos, call templates, transforms, variables install tenticle via cli

    but even it…

  19. After pushing build information from a TeamCity project that was building some code from SVN (subversion) version control system, I noticed that while the package in octopus did have the commit section filled out as expected, the commits were NOT there when creating a release with that package. This meant that we couldn't automatically generate the release notes based on commit messages. I contacted octopus support and we eventually figured out that SVN is not supported.
