I suggest you...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. Listing/viewing Active Users in Octopus

It would be helpful to view active users in Octopus prior to placing Octopus in maintenance mode for Server upgrades.

  2. New Release Available could take admin to release compare

    As an Octopus Deploy administrator,

I want to see the changes that would be in my specific upgrade in a single action,

So that I can be more quickly informed of what changes will occur on upgrade.

Basically looking for a quick link to this: https://octopus.com/downloads/compare?from=2019.2.4&to=2019.2.7

As is stands, both of the values in the URL above are visible in the Octopus Deploy UI (relatively close to each other)

  3. Add Auto-Logout Timeout for Users

As an administrator of our Octopus server I'd like to assign auto-logout interval for our users after a period of inactivity.

  4. Allow segregated package repositories

In a lot of companies there is a clear separation between development packages and packages approved for production. Systems like Sonatype Nexus and Artifactory provide hugely powerful examples of these catering for a wide variety of requirements, but in most cases you need a simple set of requirements:
    * The ability to push packages to one (dev) repo
    * The ability to promote packages to another (prod) repo
    * The ability to force certain environments to pick from a certain repo

This should be a relatively simple improvement to Octopus' very awesome but very simple package management capabilities.

  5. Option to hide Spaces in navigation

Just upgraded to 2019.1 - the Spaces navigation item bothers me a lot. We only have one space, and don’t want more spaces (and won’t upgrade our license), yet I can’t seem to find an option to remove this. Something to add under Configuration > Features?

  6. Octopus Server API versions & related components - Compatibility Table

Firstly, thanks for working on and improving upon an already great product. Now to the feedback at hand, I am currently investigating making use of the .NET Octopus.Client within a project to manage the octopus deploy server. As part of that investigation I was trying to gain a better grasp of the compatibility of the various Octopus Deploy (OD) server versions and the related components. That led me to the current page, https://octopus.com/docs/api-and-integration/compatibility which though useful at first glance, it was not clearly defined upon further investigation. Since I'm looking to use the Octopus.Client component let's example some questions for…

  7. Mapping environments on library variable sets

The issue I run into is the following:

Product A: offers an API on several environments DEV/TST/ACC/PRD

Product B: wants to use ProductA-TST on DEV/TST/QA
wants to use ProductA-PRD on ACC/PRD

I want the ability to make a library set of varables from product A so any other product I have can easily link to the API, without having to keep track of a url in the other projects variables. So if Product A changes the URL, everyone is automatically updated.

But I might have more environments in other projects or want to map multiple environments to 1 environment of…

  8. Bug: Last variable does not show menu (e.g. Open Editor, Change Type)

You are at the project/variable screen. Usually when you click on (or create) a variable you see an overlay menu with the option to open the editor or change the value type.
But this menu is cut off for the last variable in the list when it only contains a single value!

Workaround is to add a second value or use the search functionality to expand the space bellow.

  9. Display more than 3 releases in overview

    Hi,

The overview page seems to show a variable amount of releases. On one project it is showing 4, where only the oldest and newest deployments were pushed to prod. On another project it is only showing 3, again where the oldest and newest were to production.

Could we simplify this and just have it show a paginated list of all the releases? You could then use the filters to filter the rows down (rather than columns as it does now, which isn't a filter if we're honest!).

By doing this it will make this screen much more usable in…

  10. Scope variables by Date

Add the ability in the variable editor to set a variable value to only be used during a specific date range. Dates should be able to exclude year. "Every Oct, Nov, Dec" for example.

  11. Move the Load More/Load all buttons to be closer to tenants

In multi-tenant implementations, the Tenants screen only shows 30 tenants. When the left side list of Tenant types, upgrade rings, hostings, etc, exceeds the height of the list of tenants, the "Load More and Load All" button/link is pushed to the bottom of the page and requires a user to scroll to see there are more tenants to choose from. This has caused us to miss several tenants when making configuration changes because it looks like we are seeing all tenants on the screen.

I have a screen shot but I don't know how to submit it.

  12. Add security secret cleansing to Artifacts

When Octopus attaches Artifacts it does not screen the for any secrets or credentials as such these can often compromise accounts etc that are used to create that Artifact, depending on what it is and how its made.

It would be great if before Octopus attached the Artifact it looked to screen and cleanse the Artifact of potential Secrets there fore reducing the risk of it been used for security exploits etc.

  13. Clarify boolean logic of tenants & tenant tags on deployment targets

Multiple users at my company have encountered a fairly dangerous deployment target configuration behavior that isn't very clear in the UI. When you configure tenants and tenant tags on a deployment target, the logic is:

Specific tenants OR (tenants tagged <abc> AND <xyz> AND <etc.>).

The dangerous part is the OR. At first glance, beginners at my company have assumed that the tenant and tenant tag fields all have an AND relationship, so they select a specific tenant and various tenant tags that apply to that tenant. They assume this is straightforward, so they don't click the preview button that…

  14. Add Export/Import buttons in project UI

We have dev and prod instances of Octopus Deploy. I’ve created a deployment project on the dev and then we needed to copy it to prod. We didn’t find Export/Import buttons in project UI. My colleague opened https://octopus.com/docs/api-and-integration/octo.exe-command-line/export page and told, that it’s too complicated and it will be easier to manually duplicate all steps on the prod Octopus Deploy.

Could you please add to project Octopus UI Export/Import buttons , that will provide same behaviour as octo.exe CLI. It’s ok to implement just the simplest scenario with default parameters and have a note “if you need more control, use…

  15. Octopus Cloud - Packages - shift click support with packages

It would be nice if you could shift + click to select a range of packages to delete in the Library > Packages for a given package.

  16. Octopus Cloud - Packages - show total amount of space used

It would be nice to be able to see how much space packages are taking up for an Octopus Cloud instance and whether you are reaching the max amount allowed. The maximum space allowed in Octopus Cloud is not documented I believe.

It might be helpful to have this knowledge so we know when to use Octopus Cloud's built-in repository to host packages versus utilizing an external package feed from elsewhere.

  17. Display operating system version information on the Deployment Targets page

It would be useful to see what operating system and potentially which .net framework versions are installed on a deployment target. I've got a variety of different server versions and in order to pick a baseline .net framework version I need to work out the oldest OS.

  18. Allow retention policies for packages only

Retention policies are great because our storage usage is getting insane with our hundreds of projects. Retention policies aren't being used because the release history/audit trail of previous releases is considered too valuable to remove.

Implement a package-only retention policy where old packages can be automatically removed, but without the need to delete associated releases first.

  19. It would be convenient if the Tenant had a Description field for explanatory text.

It would be convenient if the Tenant had a Description field for additional text describing the purpose of the Tenant. (Much like the Projects that have a Description field to provide extra info.)

  20. Default channel should be configurable

when we have channels, you can select to group by channels or no grouping. We want it possible to per project or per user to be configurable what grouping to use.
