  1. I have created a powershell step template to ensure that a package exists at MyGet to work around their eventual consistency ahead of attempting to fetch the package for deployment. In order to utilize this step template, I must also remember to include the script module that it depends upon. It would be great to be able to attach script modules to "run a script" step templates so that you don't have to remember to add the module in addition to the step itself.

  2. We are working with projects as templates and thus almost always start from a template which we clone.

To reduce the manual steps involved in the process it would be nice to be able to clone a project using octo.exe

  3. It would be good if Octopus could allow users to add a custom message that any user that logs in can see when the server is in Maintenance Mode. It would even be cooler if an alert message could be scheduled, so admins could add a "Server will be down from X to X" a couple of hours prior to the outage.

  4. Currently different Channels on Octopus Releases page are all marked with the same colour scheme and you need to read the actual name to distinguish them. Are there any plans to add ability to change their default color and maybe to add some logos etc.

  5. Octopus Deploy penalises you for using PaaS resources over IaaS.

We currently use VMs which are capable of hosting many web services and only consume 1 deployment target on our licence. If you were to convert that same VM to an Azure App Service, you would consume far more licences for the same server power, which sucks.

    e.g.

A single Virtual Machine hosting 15 web apps in IIS costs only 1 deployment target

A single App Service Plan hosting 15 web services costs 15 deployment targets

TL;DR; Azure App Service Plan should consume 1 deployment target regardless of how many…

  6. It would be useful to see what operating system and potentially which .net framework versions are installed on a deployment target. I've got a variety of different server versions and in order to pick a baseline .net framework version I need to work out the oldest OS.

  7. It would be great to have an option to have a banner which would allow to make announcements to users. We have over 600 and communicating to them is a challenge. This works great in Atlassian products like Confluence

  8. Instead of a project only can belong to one Group, most of our Projects are part of a lot of Things. Microservices that both are general and related to a specific solution. Allowing for the possibility to Group components that make out a system and the Octopus user can then select the "perspective" aka tag that reflects their world

  9. Hi.
I've a set of projects that are virtually the same except for the values in the variables.

Right now, it is a hassle to setup the same variables in all of the projects I have and it is easy to get variables wrong (yes I use clone, which sort of helps but it is not futureproof).

What I would want to be able to do with variables, is to create a variable set which I can consider a default value set of these variables. These variables can be overriden locally in the projects (usually necessary in development and testing…

  10. None of the current audit log filters (as of v3.3) make it easy to find changes to library variable sets.

Sometimes a value changes and we don't know why. We like to know who changed it, and how long ago (and whether there have been other changes to that variable in the past). Then we can have an informed conversation about it, with those concerned.

  11. We happened to be hosting https://demo.octopusdeploy.com and https://demo.octopus.com using two difference certificates, but the Octopus Manager really only supports a single SSL binding - the last one in the script wins.

Here's an example of the script that worked using hostnameport instead of ipport:

    "netsh.exe" http delete sslcert ipport=0.0.0.0:443
    "netsh.exe" http add sslcert hostnameport=demo.octopus.com:443 appid={E2096A4C-2391-4BE1-9F17-E353F930E7F1} certhash=FAKE certstorename=My
    "netsh.exe" http add sslcert hostnameport=demo.octopusdeploy.com:443 appid={E2096A4C-2391-4BE1-9F17-E353F930E7F1} certhash=FAKE certstorename=My
"C:\Program Files\Octopus Deploy\Octopus\Octopus.Server.exe" configure --instance "OctopusServer" --webForceSSL "True"
    "C:\Program Files\Octopus Deploy\Octopus\Octopus.Server.exe" configure --instance "OctopusServer" --webListenPrefixes "http://demo.octopusdeploy.com/,http://demo.octopus.com/,https://demo.octopus.com/,https://demo.octopusdeploy.com/"
"C:\Program Files\Octopus Deploy\Octopus\Octopus.Server.exe" service --instance "OctopusServer" --stop --start

  12. Nuget push is not sufficient for moving my packages from my build environment up to my octopus server, and would prefer to use FTP.

Nuget.Server and Klondike both automatically scan the file system and add new packages to the index as they appear. Octopus’ failure to do so is preventing us from using the built-in feed.

  13. We would like the option to manage permissions for which channels can be used by certain team members within a project. We have DB deployment specific channels stored within the same project as our app deploy, but do not want devs to be able to release on the DB deploy channel. Only DBA's should be able to.

  14. As we know this is the era of mobility and mobile apps, I believe that it is the time for Octopus deploy to have its own mobile apps on Android and IOS. This will be of a great added value for the uses to timely interact, support and troubleshoot specially when they traveling, on move, or unable to access their laptops or desktops.

  15. Have the ability to search for Builds that you want to add to your dashboard. Having 100+ builds within many groups, finding that 1 new build can be very difficult.

Have the ability to add entire groups to the dashboard and any new builds added to that group are automatically added to my dashboard. We have many teams that group their builds within a group, but then as they add new builds to that group they are forced to also add that build individually to their dashboard.

  16. As an administrator, I'd like to be able to impersonate a normal user so I can see what they see when they log in.

Currently, the only way to test the active directory groups is to walk over to a users desk and ask them to log in to verify they can't see what they shouldn't.

Gitlab is a good example of a product that allows for admin impersonating.

  17. In the project I'm currently working in; we have 6+ environments and many variables are unique to these environments.

To get a better overview of all the variables I suggest that you add the possibility to collapse or group the variables by name.

  18. To keep in line with security best practices...

It would be incredibly useful to be able to separate the Web Portal from the Application server.

This would allow for greater control and will enable "physical" separations of duties for the administration/configuration items from the deployment items.

  19. We would like to be able to filter a process by Channel, to only show the steps that apply to one channel.

For some of our projects, we have a process that only requires a few steps for one channel.

To make it more apparent what the process is, it would be helpfull to filter the process steps shown by process.

  20. Hi.

    RE: http://docs.octopusdeploy.com/display/OD/Project+Groups

Would be nice to have the ability to nest project groups. I have projects that are the same codebase but get released differently, and at different times, depending on the market (UK, FR, DE, etc).
From what I can see I can only create a parent/child relationship one level deep at the moment?
